Information Report about Swordfish

The swordfish are cold blooded marine animals. They are a large and strong animals. Their scientific name is Xiphias Gladius. The swordfish is one of the world's fastest sea animals as they can swim up to 50 miles per hour. They are rare animals too.

The swordfish sometimes lives in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea (Under Europe). The north-west Atlantic Ocean is also their habitat. The Pacific swordfish are three times larger than north- west Atlantic swordfish.

The swordfish have a long flat sharp bill above their mouth to catch their prey and protect from predators (enemies) including humans, large sharks and killer whales. They have a couple of big eyes and no teeth. The swordfish have a crescent shaped tail and a tall front fin. They have a special organ near their eyes which keeps their eyes and brains warm which makes them think and see better. Their average length is 2.1 metres, but some of the swordfish reach 4.6 metres! Most swordfish weigh 68 - 113 kgs. They can weigh more than 450 kg and the world's heaviest swordfish ever caught weighed 536 kgs! The female swordfish are bigger than the males. 

Swordfish are carnivores (that means meat-eaters). They eat ocean fish like mackerel, hake, herring and bluefish. They sometimes eat octopus and squids. They mostly eat at night. They catch food with their bills. 

Some swordfish die of pollution that made them think it's their food but it is actually rubbish. If they don't die from pollution, their average lifetime is three or four years and the maximum is 9 years.

The swordfish are very interesting and fun animals. You might want to see one at an aquarium!

It was a sunny day when it was time to go to sleep

There was no sound while Ben was snoring

I woke up in a dream

I drove a car on a stream

It was time for trick or treat on Christmas day

Many people came to our house but we scared them instead

The next day we ate breakfast without opening our mouths

Personification Poem

I am rain.

I start my life high in the blue sky

Taking off to start my falling journey

Diving through the air, it is still a long way

I do not stop, I fly sharply to the ground

I am not like someone else, but my time on earth is short

I zoom very fast like a rocket

I land on the tall grass to have a rest

I continue flying to the wet ground.

I reach the wet ground finally and end my life.

And it's me rain!

Yuan's Holiday Comic Life

Our Water Filter

Hi everyone!

We are The Rock Stars.

We made water filters today. Here is what we did, in case you want to make one at home. Make sure you do it outdoors so you don’t make a mess!!!

In our water filter we had:

• Cotton (at the bottom of the container that has holes) make sure you cover the container and you can’t see any plastic at the bottom
• Sand (cover the cotton)
• Rocks (you don’t need to cover the sand)
• Charcoal
• Grass (only a little bit)
• Tissue Paper (fold to fit into bottle)
• Rocks again (same type of rocks)

 

Steps

1. Poke holes so when you pour water in it will come back out
2. Put the cottons in first and make sure you can’t see any plastic
3. Put the sand in which covers the cottons
4. Add the rocks in, to cover the sand
5. Break the charcoal into little pieces and put them in after the rocks
6. Now find some grasses that doesn’t cover the whole thing
7. Take a piece of tissue and fold into the size that would fit inside and put it in
8. Now add the rocks again which is the same type of the rocks in step  4
9. Put another bottle underneath the container with holes
10. Take some water from the tap
11. Pour them into the container with the holes
12. Wait and you will see that the water you put in will come out dirtier than the normal water
13. Pour again into a different bucket and put it back underneath the container with holes
14. Now pour the water in the bucket that has holes
15. Wait again and see if it is clean
16. If it is still dirty repeat step 13 & 14 until you get the water clean
17. If it is clean then drink it if it doesn’t have any other stuff in it (make sure it is absolutely clear)

The container that I brought to school was bigger than the Pump bottle that Yuan brought, so we had to duct tape the sides so water will not drip out.

I brought 2 bottles to school and traded 1 bottle to someone (because they didn’t have a bottle) and they gave some sand back to us. My other teacher, Mrs Figgins came to our class and helped us make the water filter. I hope you have a good time trying  the water filter. Try not to make any big mistakes. :D

It was fun doing the filter but it had its challenges like when we had to find good charcoal and get stones around school.

I loved the experiment.  I would of drunk the water but we weren’t allowed to, because we weren't sure if it was safe or not. I also loved making muddy water!!!
