How to make a stuffed animal!

Materials:

2 Sheets of A3 Paper                                    Scrap paper

Paint                                                             Shredded paper                                                     Scissors                                                        Stapler                                                       

A LOT of staples!

Instructions:

1.     Get your scrap piece of paper and sketch your animal. Keep practising until you think it’s the best it can be

2.     Once you are completely happy with your work, get one of your good pieces of A3 paper and draw your animal on to it

3.     Cut your animal out

4.    Trace around your animal onto the second piece of paper

5.     Cut the second animal out

6.     Paint both pieces of paper one colour all over. This is your base colour

7.     Let them dry then add any features you want your animal to have

8.     Once it is dry, staple the two pieces of paper together along the bottom of the animal

9.     Get your shredded paper and stuff as much as you can into your animal

10.   Staple up the rest of your animal

11.   Now you are done!

Wow Alive Jelly fish! By Karen L and Claire

WOW! Alive Jelly Fish!
On Monday the 27 May we made a jelly fish in a bottle. Now we will teach you step by step how to make a jelly fish that looks alive.
You will need these everyday products:
Scissors
Clear plastic shopping bag
Clear drink bottle that is not going to be used anymore
Blue food colouring or blue dye
Water
Fishing string
How to make it:
1.First you cut a plastic bag in half
2. Second you put your first finger in the middle of the half plastic bag
3. Blow in the the hole where your first finger was
4. Tie the string in under the hole but don't make it so tight because you need to put water in it
5. Put water in the jelly fish and the bottle only put two thirds of water into the bottle
6. Now put the dye into the bottle but not the jelly fish
7. Put the jellyfish in now and you are DONE!

This week Room 5 made paper out of old paper that's been used into new paper.

Here is how we made it:

Resources:

Old paper that's been used

Hot water

Paper recycling kit

Dye

Art shirt/old shirt

Rubber gloves/plastic gloves

Cello tape

Glitter (if wanted)

Cloth

Method:

1.Rip up paper

2.Put the ripped up paper into the hot water

3.Soak it over night in the hot water
4.Put the dye, mulch in to the tray in the recycling paper kit
5.Get the gloves and put them on with the cello tape

6.Choose which shape you want to make the paper with from the recycling kit

7.Take the shape you want and put the sieve under it
8.Then put it in the tray containing the mulch and dye
9.Leave it in the tray until it has been covered in mulch and dye
10.Clear away the mulch from the edges of the shape
11.Put the cloth on to the shape and sieve then squeeze it hard with your hands
12.Take the sieve and the shape off carefully be careful not to damage the shape of the mulch

13.Then put the other cloth on the other side

14.Take the squeezer from the recycling kit and put the cloth and mulch on to the squeezer
15.Put the lid on the bottom part of the squeezer and screw the bolts on

16.Then squeeze the squeezer until there is no dye coming out

17.Unscrew the bolts and lift up the lid
18.Let it dry over night


Room 5 enjoyed making paper, the colours room 5 chose were violet, blue and red.
We made to pieces each one for Mother's Day and one for the parent helper who helped us on Maritime Museum.

How to Make a Water Filter (Room 5 style!!)

Room 5 did a project where we made our own Water Filters.



Here is how we did it, just in case you'd like to do it yourself.

The ingredients are...

• Sand
• Rocks
• Cotton/Silk
• Grass
• Coal
• bottle
• knife

Instructions:

• Get all the ingredients
• Cut the bottle in 1 quarter
• cut cloth in small pieces
• add sand into the bottle
• add rocks on top of the sand
• add sand onto the rocks
• add grass on top of the sand
• putt cotton on the sand
• punch holes at the bottom with pins (ask parents to help)
• add clean water to clean until it's clean.
• add dirty water if it's dirty put some more clean water though it.

Our group did very well, we thought! We managed to clean the water a lot, but our next step is to figure out how to make it crystal clear like some of the other groups!

Claire found out you can make dirty water into clean water.

Karen J found out that you can make dirty stuff in to clean water.

Vanessa found out that you can make a simple filter with things that are easy to find.

E.J learned how to make a Water Filter with things around the house.

We all want to do it again!
